Transmission Gear Slipping problems of the 2001 Volvo V70
Seven problems linked to transmission gear slipping have been reported for the 2001 Volvo V70.
Transmission Gear Slipping problem #1
I have a 2001 Volvo V70 with 110,000 miles. The transmission has been slipping for the last 2 years. Last week the car was barely driveable. My Volvo mechanic states that the transmission needs to be replaced (approx. $4700). I have heard of many other Volvo owners having the same problem. It was Wed., Jul. 27, 2011 when this transmission gear slipping issue happened.
Transmission Gear Slipping problem #2
I have a 2001 Volvo V70 awd station wagon. The transmission failed while I was driving with my 2 small children in the car. As I was lurching along cars were passing me at 55+ miles per hour, my family and I were placed in a dangerous situation and our safety was jeopardized. Luckily I was able to pull off to the side of the road before I was rear ended or hit by another vehicle. I took my Volvo to the local Volvo dealer 2 previous times regarding my transmission slipping and the car lurching, both times I was told that a transmission problem could not be detected. ?? this last time they had to acknowledge a problem exists because the transmission went out. I only have 71,000 miles on the car and I now have to pay $4,000 dollars for a new transmission. My service writer said he contacted Volvo north America and they would do nothing to help with the repair costs. My car is undriveable and has been in the service shop while we wait for the transmission repair to be completed. I have done some research and this problem seems to be pervasive in this model vehicle. Volvo north America needs to acknowledge this problem exists and help to repair these vehicles, that jeopardize their customers safety. The failure date was 09/21/07.
Transmission Gear Slipping problem #3
Crash was involved with this problem. 2001 Volvo V70xc. Transmission lurches and slips. Vehicle involved in major accident in 2002. Volvo inspected vehicle and found no issue with transmission. The vehicle was inspected by dealer on two additional visits with same concern. Dealership could not find a problem. Took vehicle to independent mechanic who made an adjustment to transmission. Vehicle again lurching and slipping. Took to mechanic and informed a service report now indicated we needed to replace a valve assembly. Cost: $1,100-1,800. Call dealership and informed that the vehicle was out of warranty and they could not help. Phoned Volvo cars of north America. Informed the only recall was on fuel pump and the only recall on transmissions having similar problem was on their v90. Because of the age of the vehicle they could not assist me in resolving this claim. It was Sep. 1, 2002 when this transmission gear slipping issue happened.
Transmission Gear Slipping problem #4
The vehicle was a 2001 Volvo V70xc. My 2001 Volvo xc V70 transmission is also slipping and lurching. Lately this has been occurring on a daily basis. I have had no accidents, but when it slips and hesitates while pulling onto a main road my heart skips a beat hoping I won't lose transmission power with no way to get out of another vehicles path. My mechanic, who works strictly on Volvo and saabs, has told me he cannot guarantee that repairs or adjustments would correct the problem and that changes could possibly make matters worse (I. E. , complete transmission failure). I will be trading this car in to a dealer in next week or two. From what I've seen on this forum, Volvo is not owning up to this problem. I have also had power steering issues since shortly after purchasing used. Lots of noise in front and at parking speeds, total loss of steering power. The failure date was Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009.
Transmission Gear Slipping problem #5
The vehicle involved is a 2001 Volvo V70. The VIN of this V70 is YV1SW53D11_. Transmission slips when shifting from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. This presents a serious hazard for collisions from the side and rear because the car does not accelerate from a stop or when crossing a street. This problem occurred on Oct. 13, 2008.
Transmission Gear Slipping problem #6
The vehicle involved is a 2001 Volvo V70. Transmission began slipping at about 80,000 miles. Replaced transmission last year, now jerks at 3rd gear. 92,000 miles. It was Mon., Nov. 24, 2008 when this transmission gear slipping issue happened.
Transmission Gear Slipping problem #7
The vehicle having this issue was a 2001 Volvo V70. Driving 25 mph going through the toll booth on the freeway, afterwards accelerating and immediately noticed transmission slip as the rpm gage went up and beyond 6,000 rpm. There was no sign leading up to the slipping. Afterwards I continued to drive for another 25 miles, stopped to check under the hood to see what happened. Nothing to do except drive home. The transmission continued to slip upon acceleration. The traffic began to stop and go for many miles. The transmission at some point after stopping wouldn't engage into any gear. I was unable move the car out of the fast lane. Called aaa for a tow truck and the chp. The car was towed to a Volvo repair facility where it was inspected. I was told that the transmission needed to be replaced by a new one or a rebuilt transmission, which in either case would cost in excess of $5,000. Transmission service was performed on this car 3-4 months prior to this incident. There was never any indication that the transmission was failing in this car. There were no warning lights or notices on the dash board to indicate a problem with the transmission. The vehicle is in a repair facility awaiting my decision to either replace the transmission or donate the car. This transmission gear slipping problem happened on Feb. 19, 2011.
